GLAST Series – Gloss and Structure Sensors

The inline sensors of the GLAST (GLoss And STRucture) series are primarily used where highly reflective surfaces (e.g., stainless steel sheets, aluminum sheets, painted surfaces, plastic films) and transparent objects (films, glass plates, Plexiglas plates) need to be inspected.

In this case, a grating is projected onto a line detector via a projection lens using the object to be inspected, which acts as a more or less optimal mirror. Transparent objects, on the other hand, are placed near the grating, which is then projected onto a line detector via a projection lens. In both cases, the quality of the object determines the quality of the video signal at the line detector.

In the reflected-light method, the optical axes of the transmitter and receiver branches are at an angle of 30° (or 45°), whereas in the transmitted-light method, the object to be inspected is perpendicular to the optical axis of the transmitter/receiver arrangement. The transmitter-receiver distance is approximately 135 mm in both cases.

Three different gratings are available (0.5 mm/0.5 mm, 1.0 mm/1.0 mm, and 2.0 mm/2.0 mm).
